Glasgow 2.0 Training Complete!

Working with Textured Hair & Makeup for Medium to Deep Skin Tones

How is it over a month already since we walked into Glasgow with our Working with Textured Hair & Makeup for Medium to Deep Skin Tones workshop? It feels like I only just left London to travel to Glasgow to set up the workshop.

Setting up the workshops are a lot of fun for me, but the to -do list is a long one and inevitably, before, during and after the workshop, my head has been down and so by the time I have set up, organised, managed and wrapped up all the bits, it's a month or two later. I shouldn't feel so bad but hate to feel out of it.

So, what happened on the workshop?

Well, the workshops in Glasgow went great. We had a full (almost) house. 18 out of 20 wonderful hair and makeup artists came in from around Scotland for our ScreenSkills HETV supported training and spent 3 days with us learning and practicing techniques and then putting it into practice with our lovely models.

New for BLCKSTR we ran the two 3 day training session back to back - which gave myself, Sharon and Famida as educators a lovely long week in Glasgow. As for our busy hair and makeup artists they were able to fit in training without missing too much in the way of paid work. But I always say, training gets you more paid work and so, if you can afford to - go for training. You won't regret it.

Our days in Glasgow could be titled fast and furious because the time zapped by. We didn't get the opportunity this time to see much of Glasgow town nor shop, nor eat out much, but on the last day of training Sharon, Famida and I managed to grab a delicious Indian meal together. Our group dinner was a good time to reflect on the week and our two groups and we agreed there is something special about the makeup artists in Scotland,

They give off a real community vibe. I know every makeup group in their region feels like that - but you don't often get to see that if you are an outsider. The HMUAs in our classes came in together, left together, supported one another, were encouraging through out the time, and were always ready with the laughs.

They made teaching fun for us and at the end of it we were sorry to goodbye. Sharon our hair educator confessed she was a bit emotional (lol) it gets like that. It is always a fun and rewarding 3 days. We all had a great time. On wrap we were graciously presented with a card of thanks, some chocolate, some taffy (from Isobel) and some Procecco. Thanks guys.

Much appreciation too goes to our hosts GMAC for making sure we were comfy and had all the things we needed.

Laters Glasgow, Until next time.

On our BLCKSTR workshops - we aim to support artists with specific hair and makeup training to become more familiar with, feel more confident about, and gain more practice working with the hair and makeup for people of colour.
